I got the first two editions of the Bishop Press, then it stopped arriving. A few other people who live in other areas of Bish have told me they don't get it either.

Who does get it then?

Yeah she broke the rules a bit. We've all been there. You need to pop in Morrisons and you're only gonna be five minutes. The time it takes you to go and get a ticket from the machine, you could be in and out of the shop. So you bump it.

Busted!

She sent a letter to the council with the cheque for the fine and a copy of the receipt which had the time of 13.04 on it, asking for a little compassion since she was only in the shop a few minutes, and it was her birthday as well.

They took the coin! Well if you let one off with it, you'll have them all doin it!

Interesting Social Shift

Friday nights down the town used to be the busiest night. Saturdays more for your olds and couples.

Now Saturday night is the busiest. (Thursday's probably just as busy but it's pure charvtastic!)

The pubs and clubs are the same on Saturday as on Friday.

So who was it that said that Saturday should be the top night, and everybody follow them over?

I'm going to try to open your mind a bit. If you run a local club, or you plan events around Bishop Auckland then I could build you a webpage as part of my site. So if you want to promote your events or post photo's of your past events, instead of havin to wait until you've printed your posters and flyers, or for the newspaper to run your story and distribute the papers. Radio adverts are annoying, nobody reads the ads in the paper, Sky + is killing telly ads, and people just launch your leaflet into the recycling.

Myspace is the future, no hold on, Facebook's what you want, no hang on, you want to be on that Twitter, blah, blah, blah.

What are you doing to get outside of the box? Jumping on that next bandwagon isn't going to cut it anymore.

It's got nowt to do with Gordon Brown, it was Mags and Ron who introduced us to the wonders of the free market. That means no government regulation people. We were left to our own devices and obviously greed got the better of some of us, bringing capitalism in on itself.

Under the search term Bishop Auckland, there's only 4 websites got a page rank. This website has a lot of information on Bishop Auckland, so how come I'm having such a hard time getting Google to acknowledge me in the free listings? It's not even in the top 100! And there's loads of sites managed to get there because they've mentioned Bishop Auckland once.

I'm on the first page in the paid listings though. Happy to take my coin aren't you!

No Junk Mail

Junk mail is marketing. Without marketing that company you work for wouldn't have grown big enough to employ you. Then you wouldn't have a job to earn the money to buy the house with the letterbox for you to stick a sticker on saying no junk mail.

If it doesn't interest you, just chuck it in the bin. No big deal.

The credit crunch is only the final nail in the coffin. Some big companies have happily strolled along being mundane, and the credit crunch has finally tipped them over the edge.

It's a bit of a capitalism shake up that needs to happen. and from the ashes will rise the next generation of success stories.

It could be you, you just need to start thinking outside the box. But if there's one thing Bishop is good at, it's sticking to what it knows.

Somebody stood up and had a pop at leading a revolution. That's what we need in times of crisis. People to stand up and take charge. And then people to unite behind the leader.

Unfortunately, this revolution fell flat on it's arse! And the leader has had his once optimistic vision pummeled into a disgruntled view that Bish is a shit hole.

Bit of a shame. I'll not give up that easily.

Most of the time you're not going to have 60p in change. You'll have a ten bob or a quid.

I haven't got any marketing qualifications, but I've read a lot of Seth Godin stuff, and I have enough experience of trying to market a small business that I know it's a difficult game.

The big cheeses have enough coinage to employ top marketers who always think outside the box and try new ways of getting through to the public.

It seems to me that most small business owners are a bit stuck in their ways and just rely on the old stick an ad in the paper or send out a leaflet game. It's getting old, and boring and unappealing to the limited attention span of the public these days.

Targeted ads are the way forward, but even Google Adwords can become expensive for small companies, especially if they're trying to compete in a busy market.

That's what my site is about. Affordable advertising for small businesses, targeting local people, who are most likely to visit your shop.

And hopefully I'll make enough money in the process so that I don't have to work in a factory anymore.

Everybody wins.

The I Love Bish Vision

Why do people buy heat magazine? To catch up on what the celebs are doing. What's so interesting about them anyway? They all get told what to say all of the time so that they don't offend anyone.

What about the guy who sits at the bar in the pub who's done 50 odd years of graftin in this country, and kept up with the football since he was a kid? His opinions are interesting, and he's not arsed who he offends, they're just his opinions.

And what about the old dears who cause a traffic jam in the supermarket while they're catchin up on all of the gossip? Their craics class as well!

That's what this site is all about. Catching the opinions and views of ordinary people in a small community.

It Was Only A Matter Of Time

It was a bit disrespectful of that charva to draw a tash on Stan Laurel. But it was only a matter of time before it happened.

And I think it was quite revolutionary.

It's been a problem for a long time that teenagers have nothing to do when they get to that age where they are too old to stop in and play with toys, and too young to get in the pubs.

No one ever seems to know how to address it properly, and the charvs just take out their frustration against the system, by defacing something that the council, and a load of goons who buzz off the fact that maybe Stan Laurel popped in for a cup of tea with his mate in Bish, think is a good idea to spend a few of our quids on.

I'm not condoning these actions, but there's always going to be a massive divide between politicians and charvas socially, so they'll just keep being anti social until you stop patronising them.
